WHO WE ARE

A member of Relais & Châteaux with Three MICHELIN Keys, Fogo Island Inn is a 29-room luxury hotel, built on principles of sustainability and respect for nature and culture. The Inn is a community asset, owned by the charity Shorefast, and 100 percent of operating surpluses are reinvested into Shorefast’s work to secure a resilient future for Fogo Island.

Our work has garnered significant international interest including a feature on 60 Minutes and in The New York Times’ 52 Places for a Changed World. The mission of Shorefast is to build, learn, and share economic development practices that catalyse the assets of local places, starting with Fogo Island.

The Opportunity
The Doorperson is a key member of the Guest Services team at Fogo Island Inn,
reporting to the Director, Guest Services. Stationed at the inside entrance to the Inn, this
role serves as the warm first and last impression for every guest — ensuring arrivals are
greeted with genuine hospitality and departures are handled smoothly. The ideal
candidate brings a natural warmth, attentiveness, and a deep commitment to
exceptional service. They will be responsive to guest needs throughout the stay,
contributing directly to the extraordinary experience Fogo Island Inn is known for
worldwide.

What You'll Do
• Warmly greet guests upon arrival and ensure a smooth, attentive departure experience
• Handle all guest luggage for arrivals and departures
• Orientate guests to their suites and to the Inn
• Manage traffic flow between the Inn and parking lot, including retrieving and parking guest vehicles
• Ensure guest room stoves, lobby stoves, sauna stoves, and fireplaces are lit and maintained as required
• Bring in and stock wood for all designated areas
• Maintain a clean and tidy work area, including sweeping and mopping the lobby and entrance as required, and cleaning doors and windows
• Ensure fleet vehicles are clean, fueled, and maintained in excellent working order

Qualifications and Experience
• Must have a valid Canadian driver's license
• Previous experience in a guest-facing hospitality role is an asset
• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting luggage and carrying firewood
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Passion for social business and a desire to make a difference in the lives of others and in the community
• Entrepreneurial spirit and positive attitude
• Commitment to upholding the vision and goals of Fogo Island Inn, Shorefast Foundation, and other affiliated organizations
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
• Sensitivity to the history and culture of rural Newfoundland
